Paul Jewell

My first experience of stage costume was at the age of four when I was dressed up as 'Wee Willie Winkie' for a fancy dress competition - in Capetown, South Africa of all places! I wonder if you'll be able to spot me in this show, under my impenetrable disguises!
After my first stint as Wee Wille Winkie, I took part in several school nativity plays, but my first 'real' stage appearance was in a school performance of HMS Pinafore, which I only joined so I could get to meet girls from the 'other' school!

After several years 'rest', my thespian 'outings' were re-started in 1994, when my daughters 'volunteered' me for the dads' group in their dance school show. Through that involvement I met some folks from Gasleak and joined the group the following year.

I've appeared in most Gasleak shows since, my favourites being the G&Ss, Cabaret, Oh What a Lovely War!, JC Superstar, Sweeney Todd and Thoroughly Modern Millie. I like doing foreign accents, a pastime which reached its extreme in 'Thoroughly Modern Millie', in which I had to learn to speak in Cantonese and sing in Mandarin - great fun!

Having recently played 'Readymoney Matt' in 'The Threepenny Opera', I'm looking forward to another comedy role of Frank Pickle in The Vicar of Dibley.
